In the past supporters of the fight against cancer could easily be visibly identified by the pink ribbons they wore on their person. Now you can support breast cancer in a more fashionable way by the addition of a pair of stylish pink heels, which is now in vogue. These pink shoes come in so many shapes, styles, and sizes it literally boggles the mind. They range from pink high top boots to pink sneakers to sandals with pink straps. It is not outside the realms of possibility that somewhere out there is a farmer sporting pink water boots! Incidentally, a non-profit organization has come up with the idea of putting on an annual fashion show charity event called “Pink Heels”. The proceeds of this show, which is an annual affair, goes towards assisting women diagnosed with, and battling, cancer.
Many of us have had a family member or friend that has been struck down by the dreaded disease cancer. Add to that the fact that cancer ranked high, 2nd actually, on the list of top 10 causes of death for 2011 and the outlook is not very encouraging. It is noteworthy that breast and lung cancer feature prominently. While that bit of knowledge is not welcome news most people will agree that it is better to know than not to and armed with this information steps can be taken to address the situation.
There was a time when the news that an individual had cancer was like the pronouncement of a death sentence but that is no longer the case. Thanks to rapid improvements in technology and medical advances one of the weapons in the arsenal used to fight cancer is now early detection. With early detection the chances of survival of cancer patients have improved significantly because treatment can be administered much earlier. The result is much greater levels of success. Doctors will tell you that just knowing they have a fighting chance of beating cancer will aid greatly in any cancer patient’s recovery.
The fight against cancer by the medical community is ongoing. Research and testing never stops and as expected there are costs involved, huge costs. Unfortunately it is not only at that end that fiscal concerns come into play, it raises its head at the cancer care end too. From as far back as 2006 cancer medical care expenditure in the United States topped the one billion dollar mark. These costs are ultimately expected to rise as the population increases and more people get to the age where they are increasingly susceptible to cancer.
Cancer is nothing new and has been around for quite some time. From all indications it would seem we will be having the displeasure of its company for quite some time to come. No matter where in the world you are though, you can show your support for the effort by buying and wearing a pair of pink heels. If you are numbered among those who have lost a loved one to cancer do lend your support to this worthy cause.
